WYOMING COUNTY CHAMBER & TOURISM OFFICIALLY WELCOMES SHINE GROUP FITNESS IN ATTICA WITH A RIBBON CUTTING

Apr 29, 2015

The Wyoming County Chamber and Tourism office was pleased to celebrate a ribbon cutting with Sara Martello at her new business, Shine, located at 121 Prospect Street in Attica, NY. Shine is a fitness center that offers a variety of classes and something for everyone, from In-Shape Seniors to Boot Camp. Shine Fitness can teach to all fitness levels by modifying or challenging as needed in a fun, upbeat and motivating atmosphere. Knowledgeable instructors teach using a variety of techniques in an intimate class environment of no larger than 12 participants. Classes run in 12 week sessions.

“We are very pleased to welcome Shine and Sara Martello as a new Wyoming County business located in Attica,” said Scott Gardner, Wyoming County Chamber President. “Fitness and good health is so important to our community and Sara’s passion about wellness will be great as she welcomes customers to her business. We thank her for locating here in Attica and wish her the very best as she grows her client base.”

“You can overcome almost anything, sometimes you just have to do things in a different way. If you are intimidated to try, don't be,” said business owner Sara Martello. “My classes are very much for everyone. They're a little ‘mod’ and a ‘little old school’ and will be as gentle or as challenging as you need. The trainers are very good at this. We will light the path and you will walk it.”

Shine Fitness is Sara’s dream career and her passion, but it wasn't always. She started off as a pastry chef but due to a car accident, ended up physically disabled. Sara struggled with day to day activities due to pain and limitations and was told that she would never work again; would never be able to lift more than 10-20 pounds at a time; and shouldn't be on her feet for more than a few hours.

After about a year of seeing numerous doctors and multiple back surgeries, she nearly accepted a fate of immobility. Then she decided to try exercise and discovered the benefits of Yoga. Sara found that the stretching and strengthening of core muscles did wonders and was the best "medicine" for her recovery and her interest in fitness was sparked.

Sara now has a nationally accredited personal training certification from American Council on Exercise, she is certified in group fitness, foundations of strength and conditioning and healthy lifestyles and principles. Sara is also emergency, first aid, AED and CPR certified. She holds a certificate in health sciences applied to coaching, and has also taken buddy conditioning, strength training and human nutrition classes. She worked in the fitness department at a health and wellness resort for about three years and has also worked at the YMCA in Batavia as a group fitness instructor and wellness trainer.

She has taught a wide variety of classes over the years using different techniques and equipment including indoor cycling; Boot Camp; HIIT; circuit training and abs; ageless fitness; gentle fitness for the elderly; stretch and tone; outdoor circuits; and several different kinds of water aerobics.

“Working with the elderly and with people that have a lot of different needs, I have learned to be able to modify anything to accommodate anyone,” said Sara. “I have also given motivation lectures, ran half marathons, and helped people with their running goals in smaller runs and half marathons. I want people to realize their full potential and goals and it is more achievable than they think.”
